Falck-Ytter T. Predicting other people’s action goals with lowlevel motor information. J Neurophysiol 107: 2923–2925, 2012. First published January 18, 2012; doi:10.1152/jn.00783.2011.—In support for the direct-matching hypothesis, Ambrosini et al. (2011) recently reported that goal-directed saccades during action observation were modulated by manipulations of basic motor information. This finding indicates that motor programs, activated by low-level visual descriptions of others’ actions, are involved in predicting other people’s action goals. Here, I put this result into a broader context, review alternative interpretations, and suggest strategies for future studies.

Tailoring Robot Actions to Task Contexts using Action Models

In motor control, high-level goals must be expressed in terms of low-level motor commands. An effective approach to bridge this gap, widespread in both nature and robotics, is to acquire a set of temporally extended actions, each designed for specific goals and task contexts. An action selection module then selects the appropriate action in a given situation. In this approach, high-level goals ...

The Investigation of Relationship and Predictive Role of Environmental Factors on Participation of Children With Diplegic Spastic Cerebral Palsy Spectrum Disorder: A Primitive Study

Introduction: Cerebral palsy spectrum disorder is the most common motor disability in childhood and it is a neurodevelopmental condition beginning early in life and persisting throughout the lifespan. In addition to motor problems that affect the childchr('39')s participation, the environment factors might also reduce or increase the level of participation. The aim of this study was to The inve...

Developing a Semantic Similarity Judgment Test for Persian Action Verbs and Non-action Nouns in Patients With Brain Injury and Determining its Content Validity

Objective: Brain trauma evidences suggest that the two grammatical categories of noun and verb are processed in different regions of the brain due to differences in the complexity of grammatical and semantic information processing. Studies have shown that the verbs belonging to different semantic categories lead to neural activity in different areas of the brain, and action verb processing is r...

Research review: Goals, intentions and mental states: challenges for theories of autism

mental states would impact on simpler social behaviours. In contrast, the broken mirror theory of autism focuses initially on low-level mechanisms of social behaviours such as the recognition of actions and emotions. The theory is based on the discovery of mirror neurons in the macaque monkey which respond to the actions of self and other (di Pellegrino, Fadiga, Fogassi, Gallese, & Rizzolatti, ...
